Day 16: Garibaldi Glacier

Oct 20 2019

We finished our trip down Patagonia on the Chilean side by taking the Avenue of Glaciers. Off the Magellan Strait were multiple glaciers which have made beautiful fjords. Our first stop was the Garibaldi Fjord and in the afternoon we went to Pia glacier. This glacier system is unique becuase it is one of the few healthy, growing, and advancing ice fields in the world.

For both of our glacier visits today, we took zodiacs through the ice

At the Garibaldi Glacier, we had the opportunity to take zodiacs up to the glacier wall and see the glacier calve. It was amazing to see the glacier face evolve. As a treat, we were greeted by the hotel manager in the “Hot Chocolate zodiac”, a family favorite.

From the zodiacs, we saw the Garibaldi glacier calving
