Galapagos Day 6: Santa Cruz
A day with the tortoises

Galapagos Day 6: Santa Cruz

Nov 11 2021

Today we had a chance to visit the highlands of Santa Cruz. It was a nice change of pace compared to the last few days of beaches and arid hiking. The highlands are often coated in a layer of clouds and have a nice cloud/rainforest. We started with a hike in a set of jaw dropping pit craters on the way to a tortoise sanctuary.

Seeing the giant tortoises hanging out in the highlands was amazing and we were able to get close to them as we hiked. It’s neat to hear how well the population has recovered now that the park has invested serious resources into the species.
