Day 1: Visiting Santiago πŸ‡¨πŸ‡±

Oct 05 2019

We arrived safely in Santiago, Chile after a night flight from Houston.

We had an easy transfer to the city where we found our AirBnB waiting for us, followed by fun shopping trip at the local grocery store. We found some good wines, cheese and pork.

Dr. Stanley, Ned and Pingu like the sunny apartment and getting out of the backpack.

From left to right: Ned, Pingu, Dr. Stanley. All enjoying the AirBnB

For those of you who have not met our traveling companions. Dr. Stanley, a Paddington Bear, has been with Pierre and I since we moved into our first apartment. He’s a doctor because he can make you feel better and Stanley came from the fact that he could help find things (Henry Morton Stanley also found things). He has travelled the world with us since. Ned is Adrian’s bear from childhood and has also travelled to all seven continents. Pingu, a Swiss cartoon character was one of the boys favorites growing up and came on the trip to Antarctica.

Is it a lion, dog, bear?! (Museo Chileno de Arte Precolombino)

Yesterday we toured the Museo Chileno de Arte Precolombino which had an amazing variety of the Precolumbian artifacts - including a mix of tapestry, clay objects and jewelry.

Graffiti in the streets of Santiago

From the museum, we walked across the city and had a chance to take in the ambiance of Santiago. On the walk, we stumbled upon some cool streets with interesting graffiti.

A walk through the city took us to an outdoor train museum with a large collection of very big steam trains. Unfortunately none in working order. Pierre was able to drop some serious train engineering knowledge as we walked through the park. (Carol and Adrian looked up places to get a Pisco Sour)
